Portable tablets that transform an unassuming glass of water into a great-tasting, electrolyte-laden, carb- and sugar-free drink. Like popular sports “ade”s, but without the toxic colors and sugars. They dissolve quickly, sans fizz, and travel fantastically in their little plastic tube, ready for any vacation hydration situation (extreme heat, illness, mega hike, hangover). I’m a big fan of the Orange Ginger flavor.

Warm white wine? Puh-leeze. Deflates to pack flat.
Yet another way to avoid purchasing the dreaded convenience store plastic water bottle, even when you’re away from home—and your usual filtration system. This brand new unit, made of food-grade silicone, squishes into popular wide-mouth bottles including Nalgene and Camelback, making tap water cleaner and better tasting. Comes with two filters, good for about 100 liters each.
Between now and December 18th, use the code “tapguard” during checkout on Guyot Designs’ site to get 25% off your entire order.

The quintessential tea-lover’s travel mug. A fantastic present with some nice loose-leaf tea tucked into the carrying case’s mesh pocket.

That’s a dishwasher-safe ceramic cup with silicon lid disguised as a disposable fancy-coffee-shop cup. If only the warm glow that comes from being environmentally friendly somehow made hotel coffee taste better.
Also: Congratulations to Anna and Jen P. who won the Yak Pak Chinooks. And please, don’t despair if you didn’t win anything this round of giveaways. I’ll be doing them more often in 2009, so check back.
I love eat.shop guides for their “local-only” policy. They do a great job of ferreting out the best in independent restaurants and shops in 21 major US cities. The guides are lovely, too, with each business laid out over a two-page spread filled with pretty photos, an atmospheric blurb and a few integral pieces of info. The information’s well researched—you could even use them to learn about your own city. They come in either 6X6-inch paperbound copies or online versions. Buying for a frequent traveler you’re willing to break the budget for? Fifty bucks buys access to every online version for a year.

Provides a scoop or a V-neck, depending on which side faces forward. A key layering piece that comes in a dozen colors.

Made of FDA-approved food-grade recyclable plastic, so rest assured you’re not harming the planet or your health when re-using these on the road. Love the travel strap and the wide mouth, for easy ice cube insertion, plus the fact that they retain cold twice as long as conventional bottles. Dishwasher and freezer safe. Go through Polar Bottle to personalize your gift with a name or phrase.

Easier to clean and transport than your full-sized extension fork. Also slimmer than a stick, so you can take on two marshmallows at a time while remaining fairly confident you’ll not lose them to the fire. I’m also throwing in a super cool Guyot Squishy Bowl and Cup Set, biodegradable shampoo and conditioner sheets, a funky-looking microfiber bandanna that soaks up nearly a cup of water and some hydraulically compressed tissues.

That stainless-steel grate tucks into the grill, allowing the whole 8-pound deal to fold flat—and just one inch thick. Easy to transport, easy to store.
